Lions Beat the Snow and the Bulldogs on Thursday Night

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team braved a winter wonderland in Kirksville, Mo. and beat the Truman State Bulldogs 81-71 on the home team's senior night. Five separate Lions scored in double figures in the win on Thursday night.

Even though the snow slowed down the whole state of Missouri the Lions offense was not affected by it in the first half. Lindenwood shot 67 percent from the field and was seven-for-10 from behind the three-point line. Brandon Marquardt and Cody Sorenson were both three-for-three from long distance in the opening 20 minutes.

Both teams held leads in the first half while there were also seven ties. Truman's largest lead was three and the Lions led by as many as 10. The visitors ended the opening stanza with a seven-point advantage.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room on a mission. And that mission was to get back into the game as fast as they could. That is exactly what Truman did. The home team started the final half on a 12-4 run to take a one point lead just six minutes into the half.

Unfortunately for Truman, as fast as it grabbed the lead it was even faster that the Bulldogs trailed by seven. Lindenwood scored the next 14 of 28 points to regain the lead by seven.

With both teams trading long runs in the first 10 minutes, the next five minutes were quite the opposite. Neither team scored a basket over the span. Truman missed six shots over and the Lions also missed six.

The Bulldogs broke the cold spell with a layup and cut the Lindenwood lead to six with 5:36 to go in the game. The six point spread was as close as Truman would get though. The Lions closed the contest with four free throws, two layups, and a three-pointer to hold on for the win.

Lindenwood ended the game shooting 53 percent from the field and from behind the three-point line. The Lions dominated the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs 33-25.

Sorenson led Lindenwood with a career-high 19 points. Richie Thompson was second on the team in scoring with 15 points while Alex Bazzell chipped in with 14. Marquardt led all bench players in scoring with 11. Brett Thompson compiled a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

After the win the Lions improve to 17-7 overall and 10-6 in the MIAA. Lindenwood will now have a weekend off and will play the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Feb. 27 in Jefferson City, Mo.
