Five Lions Named to All-Conference Team

Five members of the men's rugby squad were named to the Mid-South All-Conference Team.  Four Lindenwood forwards and one back received the honor earlier this week.

Seniors Michael Gierlach and Sebastian Kalm, junior Nathan Rankin, and sophomores Akbar Usmanov and Gabe Farley were listed among a total of 17 players from the conference.

The Lions finished third in the three team Mid-South with a 1-3 record during the 2014-15 season, but the two teams ahead of them were ranked among the top three in the nation in the Canterbury Top 20.  Conference champion Life University held the top spot until being knocked off in the USA Rugby D1A finals earlier in the month, while Davenport was listed third.  The Lions finished the season ranked fourth after falling to the Running Eagles in the national semifinals.

Both the men's and women's rugby teams begin pool play in the 2015 USA Rugby College 7's National Championships in Denver, Colo., on Saturday.  All matches at the event will be aired live on USA Rugby TV.
