Men's Basketball Aims to Continue Hot Start in Home Opener

Things to Know
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team will host William Woods for its 2019-20 home opener on Thursday evening from Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

• The Lions will enter the non-conference matchup with a 2-0 record after winning both of their games at last weekend's Prairie Stars Tip-Off Classic.

• Lindenwood opened the season on Nov. 8 with a thrilling 75-74 victory over Parkside. The following afternoon, the Lions posted a 35-point win over Ohio Valley, defeating the Fighting Scots by a final score of 108-73.

• Lindenwood and William Woods have met just one time in the all-time series, with the Lions securing a 93-58 victory over the Owls on Nov. 27, 2012.

• Lindenwood head coach Kyle Gerdeman picked up his first win at the helm of the program on Nov. 8. Gerdeman was named as the 20th head coach in program history in June of 2019.

• Of the 14 players on Lindenwood's 2019-20 roster, five are returners from 2018-19. The Lions will be led by their upperclassmen this season, boasting four seniors and eight juniors.

Lindenwood Notes
• Through two games this season, TJ Crockett is averaging a team-leading 28.5 points per game, after pacing the Lions offensively in each game of the Prairie Stars Tip-Off Classic.

• Crockett totaled a new career-high with 34 points against Parkside on November 8th in the season-opening victory. Crockett finished the game hitting a career-high 13 field goals, and was a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe.

• Anthony Christian started each of the first two games for Lindenwood, making his debut in a Lions uniform on Nov. 8 against Parkside. Along with Crockett, Christian was the only other Lindenwood player to reach double-digit scoring totals in both games.

• Christian was efficient from the field, knocking down 12-of-18 over the two-game stretch. Christian finished the Nov. 9 game against Ohio Valley with 15 points.

• Sukhman Bhinder made the first two starts of his Lindenwood career over the weekend, logging an impressive total of 67 minutes, to lead the team in minutes played.

• Bhinder dished out a career-high six assists on Nov. 8 against Parkside, and led Lindenwood in the assists column in each game of the Prairie Stars Tip-Off Classic.

• Cameron Scales provided a lift off of the bench in each of the first two games of the season for the Lions. Through two games, Scales is averaging 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds.

• Lindenwood scored 108 points in its victory over Ohio Valley on Nov. 9, the most points the team has scored in a game since it tallied 112 points on Dec. 19, 2017.

• In its win over Ohio Valley, Lindenwood had six players score in double figures, and three players make at least seven field goals.

• The Lions had a strong shooting performance on Nov. 9, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of 51.3 percent. Lindenwood was 12-of-26 from three-point range in the win, and received makes from seven different players from behind the arc.

• Vijay Blackmon was three-of-six from three-point territory on Nov. 9, pacing the Lions attack from deep.

• All 10 players that entered into the Nov. 9 game for Lindenwood recorded at least one point and one rebound in the win.

• Lindenwood did an excellent job of protecting the ball during its first two games of the season, committing a total of 14 turnovers. The Lions forced their opponents into a total of 31 turnovers over the same two-game stretch.

• Lindenwood currently ranks second in NCAA Division II in turnovers per game (7.0) and is third in the nation in team assist-to-turnover ratio (2.21).

Scouting the Competition
• Prior to Thursday night's game inside Hyland Arena, William Woods will host Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from Fulton, Mo.

• As of Nov. 12, William Woods has a 1-3 record to open the 2019-20 season. The lone win of the season for the Owls came on Nov. 1, during a 74-71 triumph over No. 25 Peru State.

• William Woods finished the 2018-2019 season with an 18-12 overall record, including 15-7 inside the AMC. The Owls were ousted in the first round of the conference tournament by Central Baptist College.

• The Owls arrive in St. Charles with a balanced scoring attack that includes five different players averaging seven or more points per game. Among that group of five scorers is Ian Hodges, who is leading the team with 11.5 PPG. 

• Darius Yohe has been a force on the glass for William Woods, grabbing at least six boards in three of the four games for the Owls.
