Men's ice hockey won its third straight game 4-1 over Maryville Friday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
After a scoreless first period, the Lions broke the game open with three unanswered in the second.
Andy Willis sounded the horn first at 1:42 off a feed from
Max Helgeson. Then
Ryan Finnegan hit the back of the net at 15:01 with help from
Kyle Jeffers and Helgeson.
Zach Martin finished the trio of goals with 3:50 remaining in the period on a play set up by
Caige Sterzer and
Colton Craigo.
The Saints broke the shutout in the opening five minutes of the third, but that was the only score they would get. Lindenwood finished off the contest on the second goal from Finnegan and third assist from Helgeson, with Willis earning the secondary assist with 7:20 remaining in regulation.
The Lions outshot Maryville 45-27, and
Trent Burnham stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced to earn the victory in goal.
With the win, Lindenwood improved to 5-1-0 overall and remained undefeated at home on the season with a mark of 4-0-0. The two teams wrap up the series Saturday afternoon. The puck drops at 3:30 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
