Earlier this season, men's ice hockey traveled west to face Denver from the NCAA and scored the first goal of the game before ultimately falling to the Pioneers. Saturday afternoon, the Lions hosted Air Force with another opportunity to earn a win against an NCAA opponent. Once again, Lindenwood scored the first goal of the contest, but despite the home ice advantage, history repeated with the Lions falling 6-1 to the Falcons at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The lone goal for Lindenwood came at the 5:35 mark of the opening period when
Ryan Finnegan broke free for an unassisted effort. The Lions held Air Force in check for the rest of the first, but penalties proved costly the rest of the game. The Falcons took advantage of six power play chances by scoring on four of them, twice in the second, and twice in the third. Meanwhile, Lindenwood was unable to capitalize on any of the five man-advantage opportunities provided. Air Force added an even strength goal in each period for the final margin.
The Falcons outshot the Lions 32-21 as Lindenwood dropped to 6-2-0 overall. The Lions get another shot at Air Force Sunday afternoon. The puck drops at 4:10 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
