Men's ice hockey wrapped up the fall campaign with a 3-1 victory over Maryville Saturday night at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
After most of the opening period ticked away,
Vegard Faret cashed in off a feed from
Hayden Ursulak with just 48-seconds remaining. The Lions held that 1-0 advantage until
Max Helgeson scored with the man-advantage at the 13:38 mark of the second on a play set up by
Andy Willis and
Mitch Allard. Lindenwood opened up a 3-0 lead early in the third when
Kyle Jeffers sounded the horn at 4:59 with help from
Aiden Yakimchuk and
Caleb Price. The Saints managed a score late in the period to erase the shutout, but that's as close as they would get.
The Lions outshot Maryville 37-14, and freshman
Trent Burnham stopped 13 of the 14 shots he faced to earn the win in goal.
Lindenwood improved to 11-3-0 overall with the victory. The Lions head to break with a perfect 6-0-0 mark in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL). They return to the ice for a conference home-and-home series against the University of Illinois January 7-8. The puck will drop at 7:10 p.m. for the first game that Friday at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The series finale is set for 7 p.m. that Saturday at the Illinois Ice Arena in Champaign – Urbana, Illinois.
