Roller Hockey Gold Sweeps Four Games in MCRHL Action

The roller hockey Gold squad swept all four games played in Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) action November 19-20 at Bethel Wildcat Arena in Huntingdon, Tennessee. The Lions stopped Bethel (Tenn.) AA 7-4 and Michigan State D2 5-1 on Saturday, then shutout Michigan State AA 10-0 and defeated Henry Ford Community College 3-2 on Sunday.

In the opening game against the Wildcats, Lindenwood scored three goals in each of the first two periods, then added a power play tally in the third. Matt Acosta was named Star No. 1 with a goal and three assists, Andrew DeCiantis earned Star No. 2 honors with two goals, and Nils Thegerstrom was named Star No. 3 with a goal and assist. Dillon Dale, Cameron Rodriguez, and Landon Kooker accounted for the other goals in the contest. The Lions outshot Bethel 41-35 and Clayton Davis stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced to earn the victory in goal.

Lindenwood jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Michigan State D2 and then held off the Spartans the rest of the way. Rodriguez earned Star No. 1 recognition with two goals and an assist, Bryce Pierce was named Star No. 2 with a power play goal and assist, and Dale earned Star No. 3 honors with two assists. Andrew Zack and Sean Maude also scored for the Lions, who outshot Michigan State 33-15. Chase Christopher stopped 14 of 15 shots to get the win in goal.

The Lions controlled the game against Michigan State AA from the start on Sunday morning, but it took until the second period before they pulled away. After just a single tally in the first period, Lindenwood scored five times in the second and four times in the third. DeCiantis earned Star No. 1 honors with four goals, Kade Uetz was named Star No. 2 with a goal and two assists, and Pierce received Star No. 3 recognition with two goals. Dale, Maude, and Kooker accounted for the other three goals. The Lions outshot the Spartans 58-14 and Davis stopped all 14 shots he faced for the shutout victory.
In the final game of the weekend, Lindenwood had to come from behind twice against Henry Ford Community College to earn the victory. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead late in the first, but the Lions evened it early on the second on an Acosta effort. Henry Ford regained the lead about two minutes later and it was 2-1 Hawks going to the third. Dale netted a shot just over two minutes into the final frame to tie the game and Kooker scored what became the game-winner with 3:23 remaining in regulation.

Henry Ford outshot Lindenwood 34-31, but Christopher stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced to earn the win in goal and Star No. 1 honors. Dale was named Star No. 3 with his goal.

With the four wins, the Lions improved to 7-1 on the season. They'll resume action during the spring semester.
