The roller hockey Gold squad swept all four games played at the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) Showcase January 31 and February 1 at the Salt Creek Sports Center in Palatine, Illinois. The Lions earned two victories in conference play, a 17-1 win over the Ohio State University AA team on Saturday, and a 30-0 shutout of Michigan State AA on Sunday. The other two wins were against Arizona AA 11-1 on Saturday, and 12-0 against Arizona State AA on Sunday.
The Lions offense demonstrated its might right away against the Buckeyes, scoring nine goals in the opening period. They followed with five more in the second and another three in the third. Ohio State scored its only goal with just under three minutes remaining in the contest.
Lindenwood out shot the Buckeyes 48-5 and
Niko Scott stopped four of the five shots he faced to earn the victory in goal. Shawn Sapienza earned Star No. 1 honors with three goals and two assists,
Connor White was named Star No. 2 with two goals and three assists, and
Drew Royer received Star No. 3 recognition with a pair of goals and assists.
It was a similar theme in game two against the Wildcats. The Lions scored twice in just over two minutes. It remained 2-0 until Arizona snuck a shot past Lindenwood goalie
Branden Bedley for the only score he would give up. The Lions added a goal with three minutes remaining in the period, then added five in the second, and three in the third.
Lindenwood out shot the Wildcats 40-4 and Bedley stopped three of four in the win.
Leonardo Dantas was named Star No. 1 with two goals and two assists, Logan Daffron received Star No. 2 recognition with a goal and three assists, and
Alex Hernandez earned Star No. 3 honors with two goals and an assist.
Arizona State provided the most offensive effort against the Lions with 18 shots on goal, but Conner Hof was up to the task and stopped every shot faced to earn the shutout victory in goal. After scoring two in the opening period, Lindenwood added four in the second and six in the third.
The Lions out shot the Sun Devils 31-18 overall.
Leonardo Dantas received Star No. 1 recognition with a hat trick and assist, Logan Daffron received Star No. 2 recognition with a pair of goals and an assist, and
Trevor West was named Star No. 3 with two goals and an assist.
The goal horn received a serious workout in the final game of the weekend as Lindenwood scored 30 against Michigan State on just 34 shots. The Lions scored a dozen goals in the first period, nine in the second, and nine again in the third.
Lindenwood out shot the Spartans 34-6 and
Niko Scott stopped all six shots he faced to earn the shutout win. Shawn Sapienza earned Star No. 1 honors with five goals and four assists, James Mueller received Star No. 2 recognition with six goals and two assists, and
Lucas Hurst was named Star No. 3 with six goals and two assists.
In the four games, the Lions out shot their opponents by a combined 153 to 33 and outscored them 70-2.
With the four wins, Lindenwood improved to 8-0 overall and to 6-0 in MCRHL play. The Lions return to the rink for another four conference games February 7-8 at home. They're scheduled to face Maryville University D3 at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by Purdue University AA at 3 p.m., and St. Louis Community College (JC) at 9 p.m. On Sunday, Lindenwood will play Purdue University D3 at 9 a.m. with all four games taking place at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri.
