The Lionettes dance team won the national title in Jazz Division II and took second place in Hip Hop Division II at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Team Championships April 7-9 at the Band Shell and Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Lindenwood earned a performance score of 92.0286 to lead the preliminary round of the jazz competition and be among six teams out of 10 to advance to the finals. The Lionettes improved their performance to finish with an event score of 93.5714 and win the championship by 1.8 points over second place Davenport. Merrimack College took third and Maryville University finished fourth.
Lindenwood sat in second place after the hip hop prelims with a performance score of 90.8286, almost two full points ahead of California State University – Dominguez Hills in third, but only about a half-point behind Valdosta State University in first. The Lionettes improved their performance in the finals and finished with an event score of 93.0857, but the Blazers improved as well and posted an event score of 94.8286 to take the title. California State – Dominguez Hills took third and Limestone University finished fourth.
With the national title, the Lionettes defended their crown in Jazz Division II and won the sixth championship in program history. It was also the fifth straight completed season in which the Lionettes won a national title.
