Entering competition as the reigning champions in both Division II Jazz and Division II Hip Hop, the Lionettes dance squad was able to defend its Hip Hop title while finishing third in Jazz at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Team Championships April 13 at the Band Shell and Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Lionettes bolted out of the gates quickly in the Division II Hip Hop preliminary round with a solid performance that earned them a score of 93.7429, good enough for first place just over a half point ahead of Valdosta State in second. As one of five teams that advanced to the finals, the Lions were even sharper and improved their score to 94.4571. The VSU Red Hots were better as well, but could not catch Lindenwood, allowing the Lionettes to hoist the trophy with a 0.5428 point victory.
The Lindenwood jazz squad also performed its routine in preliminaries well, but Valdosta State and Davenport were a bit better according to the judges. With a score of 89.7714, the Lionettes sat in third place just over a point behind the Panthers in first and were one of seven teams advancing. They added 1.4 points to their score in the finals and while they made up some ground on the squads ahead of them, it wasn't enough to surpass them.
The third-place finish ended a streak of three straight titles in Jazz, but with the Division II Hip Hop championship, the Lionettes won their ninth crown overall in program history. It also became the seventh straight completed season in which the Lionettes dance squad won a national title.
