The roller hockey Gold squad won the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) AA Division title with a 10-0 shutout of Arizona Sunday afternoon at The Rinks – Irvine Inline in Irvine, California. The Lions overwhelmed the Wildcats with two goals in the first period, three in the second, and five more in the third.
Dillon Dale,
Cameron Rodriguez,
Bryce Pierce, and
Kade Uetz each scored twice for Lindenwood with
Cameron Green and Trevor West each adding single tallies.
Landon Kooker and Jeremiah Keao helped the Lions offense with two assists each, while Nick Meyer,
Matt Acosta, and
Andrew Zack each had single assists in the contest.
Lindenwood outshot Arizona 42-8 and
Clayton Davis stopped all eight shots he faced to earn the victory in goal for the Lions. Dillon earned Star No. 1 honors with two goals and two assists, Pierce was named Star No. 2 with two goals and one assist, and Rodriguez received Star No. 3 recognition with two goals.
It was the 16
th national championship in roller hockey Gold program history, the last being a D4 crown in 2022.
Lindenwood advanced to the championship game with a 16-2 win over Slippery Rock in the semifinals earlier on Sunday.
Nils Thegerstrom and
Andrew DeCiantis led the Lions offense with five points each and Davis stopped five of the seven pucks he faced to earn another victory in goal as Lindenwood outshot the Pride 25-7.
DeCiantis earned Star No. 1 honors with four goals and an assist, Thegerstrom was named Star No. 2 with two goals and three assists, and Kooker received Star No. 3 recognition with three goals and an assist.
The Lions began the knockout stage with a 26-1 drubbing of Cal State – Fullerton on Saturday. There were 14 different Lindenwood players that scored at least one goal, led by Rodriguez with four. Kooker also helped the Lions cause with six points while Adam Whicker made 10 saves on 11 shots to get the victory in goal as Lindenwood outshot the Titans 57-11.
Rodriguez earned Star No. 1 recognition with four goals and two assists, Kooker was named Star No. 2 with two goals and four assists, and Whicker received Star No. 3 honors with his 10 saves and a .909 save percentage.
Roller hockey Gold began the quest towards a national championship with pool play April 20-21, beginning with a 9-2 win over Michigan State AA on Thursday. Green led the team with three goals while Dale and Kooker each had three points.
Chase Christopher stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced to earn the victory in goal as the Lions outshot the Spartans 45-19.
Green was named Star No. 1 with his three goals, Kooker earned Star No. 2 recognition with a goal and two assists, and Pierce received Star No. 3 honors with two goals.
Lindenwood continued pool play Friday morning with a lockdown 14-1 win over the University of Massachusetts AA squad. Kooker led the Lions with three goals while Zack and Uetz helped the offense with three points each. The Lindenwood defense was in control through the entire game only allowing two shots on goal. Whicker earned the victory with a save on two shots as the Lions outshot UMass 39-2.
Kooker earned Star No. 1 recognition with his hat trick, Zack was named Star No. 2 with two goals and an assist, and Uetz received Star No. 3 honors also with two goals and an assist.
In the final game of pool play, Lindenwood defeated Arizona State AA 11-1. Rodriguez received Star No. 1 recognition with two goals and two assists, DeCiantis earned Star No. 2 honors with two goals and an assist, and Kooker was named Star No. 3 also with two goals and an assist.
Roller hockey Gold finished its season with an overall record of 21-1 and a conference mark in the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) of 11-1, the only loss coming in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Bethel (Tenn.) University D1 team.
