Men’s Rugby Receives Volunteerism Award at One Main Spring Gathering

Men's rugby was honored with the Volunteer Award at the One Main Spring Gathering and Awards Event Wednesday evening at OPO Startups in downtown St. Charles, Missouri. The award, presented by the STC Main Street Foundation, recognizes organizations that have made a meaningful impact in the local community.

Lindenwood rugby and the Lions baseball team were acknowledged for playing a significant role in supporting the foundation's area events. Emmett Bock and Esihle Mfeka represented the rugby team and accepted the award on behalf of their teammates.

"Giving back to St. Charles is something we take great pride in as a program," Men's Rugby Head Coach Josh Macy said. "We challenge our players to put themselves out there, and their efforts in the community reflect the values we uphold. It's an honor to be recognized for that commitment."

The One Main Awards celebrate excellence in four categories: Preservation (design), Promotion (event), Community Development (economic vitality), and Volunteerism (organization). The Organization Committee Award is given to groups that have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership in strengthening the St. Charles community.

The two players that accepted the award for men's rugby expressed their gratitude for receiving it and the opportunity to serve the St. Charles community.

"Rugby teaches us about teamwork and responsibility, both on and off the field," Mfeka said. "It's rewarding to know that our efforts in the community are making a difference."

"We love being part of St. Charles and appreciate the opportunity to give back," added Bock. "We are fortunate to have Main Street as the backdrop to the best years of our lives."

The One Main Spring Gathering, hosted annually by the STC Main Street Foundation, brings together local businesses, property owners, and residents to celebrate the people and organizations dedicated to enhancing the downtown St. Charles area. The event, held at OPO Startups, featured networking, food, beverages, and a toast to ring in the summer season.

Men's rugby returns to action March 21 for a road contest against Brigham Young University. The opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MDT at South Field in Provo, Utah.
