Men's and women's bowling concluded the regular season at the 57
th Annual Hoosier Classic, arguably one of the toughest events of the entire year. The Lady Lions finished 11
th in the field of 64 women's teams, missing the top eight cut for match play by just 125 pins. The Lions settled for 35
th place in the field of 78 men's teams.
Competition began on Saturday with five team games. The women's squad started well with a game of 960, but in what proved to be a higher scoring environment than usual, that was only good enough for 19
th place. The Lady Lions followed with their best game of the day at 1012 which moved them up to ninth, but after moving to a different part of the 80- lane bowling center, scoring dropped off. Lindenwood finished with 906, 928, and 887 for a day one total of 4693. The Lady Lions sat in 15
th place but were just 157 pins away from eighth place and a match play spot.
Sunday included three, five-game baker sets on a different oil pattern. Lindenwood broke the 200 mark four times to post an opening set of 1013 but scoring was once again high, so the Lady Lions only moved up to 12
th and actually lost ground for match play. The second set did not go well at all with Lindenwood only managing 847. After finishing with 958 in the final set, the Lady Lions totaled 2818 (187.87 average) for the day and a had a grand total of 7511 to move up to 11
th place.
Meanwhile, the Lions did not get off to a good start. While 21 teams broke the 1000 mark, Lindenwood didn't break 900, shooting 872 in the opening game. That put the Lions at the bottom end of the standings. As games two and three unfolded, Lindenwood started to find its stride. With games of 947 and 1037, the Lions had climbed to 35
th place. Lindenwood shot 950 in game four but finished with 1064 in game five. With a day one total of 4870, the Lions made it to 32
nd place but were close to 400 pins away from the top eight cut line for match play.
It was a different oil pattern for Sunday but it proved to be even more difficult than Saturday for many teams, including Lindenwood. After shooting 907 in the opening five-game set and moving up to 28
th place, the Lions only managed 861 and 828 in the final two sets for a total of 2596 (173.07 average). With a grand total of 7466, Lindenwood finished in 35
th place.
