Teague and Pearce Tally Goals as Lions Sweep Lakers Out of St. Louis

The Lindenwood women's ACHA division II ice hockey team completed the weekend sweep of the Grand Valley State University Lakers with a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Much like Saturday night's game, the Lions set the tone of the game from the drop of the puck. The Lions offense tallied 11 shots on goal in the first period compared to the Lakers five. Neither team could put a puck in the net though, and the first period ended with the score tied at zero.

Although the second period started 0-0, it only took 1:06 for the Lions to break the deadlock. Just over a minute into the frame, Hilary Pearce scored her third goal of the season giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Madison Teague and Paris Suzuki picked up assists on the Pearce goal. Ardyn Hawryshko was called for a tripping minor later in the period, sending the Lions to the penalty kill, but this was not a problem for Madison Teague as she forced a turnover and scored a short-handed goal at 8:17. Teague's goal was her eighth of the year and was scored unassisted. The Lindenwood 2-0 lead held for the remainder of the period.

The third period began with some excellent scoring chances by both squads. A Laker hooking penalty sent the Lions to the man-advantage once again where Madison Teague lit the lamp for the second time in the game, extending the Lions lead to 3-0. Hilary Pearce and Ava Bilton set up the play and were awarded assists each. Pearce got on the scoresheet again at 13:00 when she scored her fourth goal of the season. Bilton and Teague tallied another assist apiece, and for Teague, it was her fourth point of the game. The lead was now 4-0 Lindenwood with 7:00 to play. Evi Allerding started her second straight game in net, and once again played fantastically. The Lakers finally cracked the red-hot Allerding at 16:13 but were unable to sneak any more pucks past the Lions netminder.

There were lots of bright spots for the Lions in their weekend sweep of the Lakers, but none shone brighter than Evi Allerding. In Sunday's contest, Allerding stopped 31 of 32 shots and brought her weekend total up to 59 saves on 60 shots for the two-game series. The Lions penalty kill was a perfect four for four and even netted a short-handed goal. Teague scored the shorty giving her four points for the game. Hilary Pearce played great too and tallied three points in the game. The Lions record now stands at 10-11-2. The Lions will look to bring their record back to .500 when they travel to Goggin Ice Arena in Oxford, Ohio to do battle with the Miami University (Ohio) Redhawks on January 31st.
