Women's ACHA ice hockey had a rough start in the Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) Tournament with an 8-0 shutout loss to Midland University Thursday evening at Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Lions were held without a shot on goal in the first period and only managed six shots total in the game. Meanwhile, the Warriors pummeled Lindenwood goaltender
Erica Didocha with 92 shots.
Three of them found the back of the net in the opening frame. Two came even strength at 3:56 and 17:25. The third came while the Lions were on a power play. A Midland steal led to a crisp pass and short-handed effort at 12:19 for a 3-0 Warriors lead at the first break.
A Lindenwood tripping penalty early in the second led to a Midland power play goal at 1:18. The Warriors scored unassisted at 9:08 and in regular fashion at the 17-minute mark for a 6-0 advantage after the first 40 minutes. Midland added another two in the final period, at 1:13 and 4:29.
The Warriors outshot the Lions 92-6 overall with Didocha making 84 saves on those 92 shots for a .913 save percentage.
With the loss, Lindenwood drops to 0-26-1 overall and 0-14 in the WMCH. The conference tournament continues for the Lions with a game against the University of Jamestown on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Sidner Ice Arena.
