Roller hockey swept all four games played in Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) action October 25-26 at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri. The Lions defeated the Illinois State D2 squad 16-1, stopped Ohio State D2 19-2, and then shutout the Redbirds 13-0 on Saturday, then added another shutout over Purdue D3 14-0 on Sunday.
In the weekend opener for Lindenwood, the Lions skated to a big lead early in the contest, scoring eight goals in the opening period and then following with four each in the second and third. The lone Redbirds goal came early in the third. Lindenwood outshot Illinois State D2 40-8 in the contest with
Jadyn Clark stopping seven of the eight shots he faced to earn the victory.
Seven different Lions scored and nine different players earned at least one point.
Anthony Lazzaroni led Lindenwood with six goals and seven points and was named Star No. 1.
Luke DiPasquale totaled five points on two goals and three assists and earned Star No. 2 recognition.
Nick DellaMorte scored a hat trick and added an assist and received Star No. 3 recognition. Other goal scorers included
Cameron Green, Brolen Kooker,
Zack Burnett, and
Landon Kooker. Shaun Sapienza had two helpers with
Colin Markotay earning one assist.
It was a similar tale against Ohio State as the Lions quickly took control of the game in the opening frame. Lindenwood scored nine times against a single tally for the Buckeyes. Six more goals were added to the ledger in the second with Ohio State scoring once. The Lions added another four in the final period. They outshot the Buckeyes 31-13 overall with Brett Lloyd stopping 11 of the 13 pucks he faced for the goaltending win.
DiPasquale scored four goals and added two assists for Star No. 1 honors.
Landon Kooker was named Star No. 2 with three goals and three assists, and Lazzaroni earned Star No. 3 recognition with four goals. Dillon Bilek helped the Lindenwood cause with a hat trick with Markotay and Brolen Kooker each scoring twice and
Zack Burnett scoring once.
In a rematch of game one, the Lions shut out Illinois State D2 13-0. Lindenwood started quickly with four in the first period including two short-handed. The Lions added six in the second and three in the third. Lazzaroni was named Star No. 1 with four goals and one assist, DiPasquale earned Star No. 2 honors with two goals and four assists, and
Landon Kooker received Star No. 3 recognition with two goals and two assists. Green added a pair as did Brolen Kooker. Markotay sounded the horn once.
Lindenwood outshot the Redbirds 33-13 and Clark stopped all 13 shots to earn the shutout victory.
The Lions posted their second shutout in a row in the final game of the weekend, taking it 14-0 over Purdue D3 on Sunday.
Nick DellaMorte scored four times to earn Star No. 1 honors. DiPasquale had a hat trick and added an assist for Star No. 2 recognition, and Lazzaroni netted two goals and had an assist to be named Star No. 3. Other goals came from Burnett, Sapienza,
Landon Kooker, and Bilek.
Lindenwood outshot the Boilermakers 40-3 with Lloyd stopping all three of the shots he faced in light work for the win in goal.
After the weekend of play, the Lions are 4-0 overall and in MCRHL action. They travel west to play four games in the Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League (WCRHL) on November 15. Currently Lindenwood is slated to face Arizona State D1 at 10 a.m., Grand Canyon D1 at 12 p.m., Arizona D1 at 5 p.m., and Grand Canyon D1 again at 8 p.m. All start times are Mountain Standard Time and at the Peoria Sportsplex in Peoria, Arizona.
