Roller Hockey Wins Three, Loses One at MCRHL Showcase

Roller hockey earned three wins against one loss at the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) Showcase January 31 and February 1 at the Salt Creek Sports Center in Palatine, Illinois. Arizona State topped the Lions 3-2 on Saturday before Lindenwood rebounded with a 10-1 victory over Arizona. The Lions clobbered Colorado 24-1 and then shutout Michigan State 11-0 on Sunday.

In the weekend opener, the Sun Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening period. The first goal came at even-strength at the 6:13 mark. The second goal was scored in the waning moments of a power play for Arizona State at 9:40 after a cross-checking call on Lindenwood. The Sun Devils struck again just 20-seconds later at even strength.

The Lions took advantage of a power play to get on the board early in the second. Luke DiPasquale and Parker Winkelmann set up Jack Wedoski at 2:01 to cut the deficit to 3-1. Lindenwood didn't score again until the third when Wedoski fed Tyler Webb at 5:53. The Lions had closed the gap to a single tally but could not tie it resulting in the 3-2 loss.
Lindenwood out shot Arizona State 30-15 and Brett Lloyd stopped 12 of the 15 pucks he faced in the hard-luck loss.

The Lions outscored their remaining three opponents 45-2, beginning with a nine-goal win over Arizona, but it took until the second period before Lindenwood pulled away in that contest.

The Lions scored first at 9:24 of the opening frame on a power play. Winkelmann and Landon Kooker set up DiPasquale to make it 1-0, but the Wildcats responded with an unassisted goal just 18-seconds later to knot the game at 1-1 and that's where it stood at the first intermission.

Lindenwood took over in the second with seven unanswered. Dillon Bilek started the barrage unassisted at 00:46 to make it 2-1. Only 27-seconds later, Logan Wise lit the lamp off a pass from DiPasquale. Zack Burnett made it 4-1 on a play set up by Brolen Kooker and Winkelmann at 4:06. Landon Kooker sounded the horn at 6:37 with help from Anthony Lazzaroni and DiPasquale and then Lazzaroni scored unassisted on a power play to increase the margin to 6-1 at 6:53. It was Colin Markotay to Tyler Webb at 8:34, followed by DiPasquale to Cameron Green for another power play goal at 10:58 and the Lions led 8-1 at the second intermission. Webb (7:26) and Lazzaroni (10:41) added goals for Lindenwood in the third.

The Lions out shot Arizona 34-19 and Jadyn Clark made 18 saves on 19 shots to earn the victory in goal. Luke DiPasquale earned Star No. 1 honors with a goal and four assists, Anthony Lazzaroni was named Star No. 2 with two goals and an assist, and Tyler Webb received Star No. 3 recognition with two goals.

The Lindenwood offense exploded on Sunday. The Lions outscored the Buffaloes 11-1 in the opening period, then added three in the second, and 10 more in the third. Every active player for Lindenwood except the back-up goaltender for the game earned at least one point. Lazzaroni, Wedoski, and Landon Kooker each scored four goals, followed by DePasquale with three. Wise, Brolen Kooker, and Dillon Bilek each scored twice, with Webb, Green, and Burnett adding single tallies. Winkelmann helped the team with five assists.

The Lions outshot Colorado 45-7 overall and Brett Lloyd made six saves on seven shots in goal. Jack Wedoski earned Star No. 1 honors with four goals and three assists, Brolen Kooker was named Star No. 2 with two goals and six assists, and Landon Kooker received Star No. 3 recognition with four goals and two assists.

Lindenwood wrapped up the weekend with a shutout of Michigan State. After scoring two in the first, the Lions added six in the second, and three in the third.

The Lions outshot the Spartans 41-8 and Jadyn Clark stopped all eight shots he faced to get the shutout win. Luke DiPasquale was named Star No. 1 with a hat trick and assist, Logan Wise received Star No. 2 recognition with two goals and an assist, and Colin Markotay earned Star No. 3 honors with a goal and two assists.

After the 3-1 mark for the weekend, Lindenwood is now 11-1 in collegiate competition for the season. The Lions will now gear up for the post-season at the 2026 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) Division I National Championship April 15-19 at Brightspeed Ice Park in Springfield, Missouri.
