Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team could not repeat Thursday's upset over Central Missouri on Friday afternoon as the Lions were swept in a doubleheader in Warrensburg, Mo. The Lions lost by scores of 5-1 and 12-3.
In the opening game, the Mules scored five times in the first four innings and then held on for the victory. The Lions' best chance to get back in the game came in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases on three hits.
Matt Tellor's two-out drive was caught though on the right-field warning track.
Mario Parro and
Zach Kurzejeski both had two hits in the game.
Ryan Light scored the team's lone run in the ninth inning.
Austin Klein took the loss after giving up five runs in 3 2/3 innings. The relief pitching of
Steffen Simmons and
AC Clifton pitched the final 4 1/3 innings without giving up a run.
Lindenwood led the second game 3-2 after five innings. All three runs came in the fifth inning including two on a double by
Colton Moore. The Mules' bats got hot though late in the game as they scored 10 times in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. The turning point came in the sixth inning when Lindenwood got the first two batters out, but couldn't get the third out before four runs crossed the plate.
Wade Rothermich,
Dylan Lowery, and Light all had two hits in the game. Kurzejeski had one run, one hit, and one RBI. Lowery and
Zach Loraine had the other runs for Lindenwood.
Dylan Terrell picked up the loss on the mound after allowing six runs, four earned, in just under six innings pitched.
Lindenwood falls to 19-18 on the season with the two losses. The Lions will conclude their four-game series against Central Missouri with a single game on Saturday afternoon.
