Lions Offense is Key in 9-1 Victory over Maryville

Box Score The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Maryville on Tuesday evening at the Lou Brock Sports Complex by a 9-1 margin.

Maryville jumped out to an early lead as it scored in the first inning to go up 1-0.  In the second inning, Wade Rothermich cut off a potential two-out double and gunned down the Maryville runner at second to keep the game at 1-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Ryan Light started the inning with a walk and was followed by Nathan Prindle who was hit by the very next pitch.  Kyle Leslie laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position setting up the Lions to take the lead on a Marshall Vallandingham double that scored both Light and Prindle.  Mike Wilson put the ball in the same spot down the line to bring in Vallandingham for a 3-1 Lions lead forcing the Saints to change arms.

Freshman Zac Perkins kept things going with a double of his own that drove in Wilson to give Lindenwood a 4-1 lead after the second inning.  The Lions added more runs in the bottom of the third starting with a Kyle Leslie groundout that resulted in Mike Failoni crossing the plate.  Wilson hit a single to bring in Light and was followed by Perkins who walked to load the bases.  The Saints pitcher was wild during the Rothermich at bat allowing Vallandingham to score and the Lions led 7-1 after three innings of play.

Lindenwood picked up another run off the bat of Jerry Roam to bring in Wilson in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth when Vallandingham singled to left field allowing Prindle to score and give the Lions a 9-1 lead.  The Lions held on for the 9-1 victory over the Saints

Lindenwood improves to 9-12 on the year after the non-conference win over Maryville.  The Lions will travel to Bolivar, Mo. to take on Southwest Baptist in a four-game series starting at 1 p.m. on Friday.
