Roller Hockey Sweeps Through Midwest Inter-Regional

With four straight wins, the roller hockey team swept through the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey Association Inter-Regional January 31 and February 1 at Hat Trick Hockey in Palatine, Ill., outside of Chicago.

In the opening game on Saturday morning, the Lions skated to a 15-2 victory over Michigan.  Cody Kettler led the offense with a pair of goals and seven assists, while Cory Kettler added four goals with one assist, and Trenton Matteson sounded the horn four times in the contest.  Bryan Lowery stopped nine of the 11 shots he faced to earn the win in goal.

In the second game of the day for the team, Lindenwood topped Miami (Ohio) 11-0.  Cody Kettler was again the star of the game with three goals and three assists.  Jalen Krogman added four points on a goal and three assists, while Matt Sexton scored twice and assisted on another play.  Lowery picked up the shutout with 12 saves for his second straight victory in the cage.

In a much closer matchup, the Lions defeated Michigan State 5-2 on Saturday evening.  For the third straight game, Cody Kettler led the offense with three points on a goal and a pair of assists.  Sexton added a goal and assist, while Korey Klable found the back of the net once.  Lowery continued his solid goaltending with 15 saves on 17 shots.

In the final game of the weekend for Lindenwood on Sunday, the Lions edged Grand Valley State 4-3.  Lowery faced 29 shots, but stopped 26 of them to get the well-earned win.  Klable and Brennan Luscombe each scored twice, while Cody Kettler added three assists for the Lindenwood cause.

With the four victories, the Lions improved to 17-3 for the season.  Lindenwood returns to action on February 8 with two games scheduled at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Mo.  The Lions will face Arkansas at 12 p.m., followed by the University of Missouri – St. Louis at 7 p.m.
