Special teams were key in a 6-0 victory for women's ACHA hockey over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lions scored five power play goals on seven chances and
Ardyn Hawryshko earned a hat trick, the second Lindenwood player to do so in as many games.

The first of those three goals came at the 5:53 mark of the first, assisted by
Graece Fowler and Kenzie Cameron. A checking penalty gave Lindenwood another man-advantage chance at 13:46 and Hawryshko cashed it in just 20-seconds later on a play set up by
Madison Teague and
Loki Antonio.
The Lions carried a 2-0 lead through the rest of the opening period and into the second when a high sticking penalty led to the third straight power play goal from Lindenwood off the stick of
Hilary Pearce, her first of the season, at 3:01. Teague and Antonio combined on the set-up once again. Hawryshko needed just over 25-minutes of game time to complete her hat trick, and it came on the only even-strength goal of the contest helped by Teague and Pearce at 5:09. It remained 4-0 Lions until late in the second. After the Rams were called for tripping, Lindenwood scored its fourth straight power play goal in as many chances when Antonio sounded the horn with help from Teague and Pearce at 19:06 and the Lions took a 5-0 advantage into the final frame, but not before Rhode Island switched goaltenders and then was called for roughing in the final seconds.
That penalty time carried over into the third and Teague made it five-for-five on man-advantage chances for Lindenwood at the 56-second mark. Antonio earned her fourth point of the game with the primary assist and Pearce matched that effort with the secondary assist to make it 6-0. The Lions had two more five-on-four opportunities, but the Rams kept Lindenwood from scoring any more.
Teague led the Lions with five total points on a goal and four assists as Lindenwood outshot Rhode Island 59 to 19.
Evi Allerding earned the shutout victory with 19 stops on those 19 shots.
With the win, the Lions improved to 3-4 overall and suddenly have a three-game winning streak. They will put that on the line with a non-conference home series against the University of Michigan – Dearborn October 19-20. The opening faceoff is set for 10:10 p.m. Saturday night and at 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
