Women's ACHA ice hockey played McKendree even through the first half of the game, but the Bearcats scored two power play goals in the second half to take the contest 4-2 Friday night at the Metro Rec-Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois.
It looked like McKendree might run away from the Lions as they scored goals at 4:06 and 4:59 of the opening period to take a 2-0 lead, but
Lauren Miller cut the deficit in half with her first goal of the season at 12:25 off a feed from
Brynn Carter. It remained 2-1 Bearcats into the first intermission.
It was another first goal of the season for a Lindenwood player that tied the game early in the second.
Julia Schoonbaert sounded the horn at 5:33 on a play set up by
Kailey Keller and
Madison Olson. The Lions ended up in the penalty box four times through the rest of the contest and the Bearcats capitalized on two of the resulting power plays. The first came at 10:44 after Lindenwood was called for holding. The second came after a roughing call late in the period. The man-advantage carried over into the third and McKendree scored 20-seconds into the frame.
The Bearcats out shot the Lions 50-15 and
Erica Didocha stopped 46 of the 50 shots she faced for a .920 save percentage.
Lindenwood is now 0-24-1 overall and 0-13 in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action. The Lions wrap up their regular season with the series finale against McKendree at home on Sunday. The puck drops at 3:30 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
