Erica Didocha made 43 saves, but women's ACHA ice hockey still fell to Michigan – Dearborn 2-0 Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Wolverines were in attack mode from the very beginning of the game, outshooting the Lions 13-4 in the opening period, but the Lindenwood defense and Didocha kept Michigan – Dearborn at bay through the first. The Lions had to kill off a slashing penalty beginning at 11:28 and even went on the power play themselves at 13:15, but that opportunity was thwarted.
After the Wolverines broke through with an even-strength goal one minute into the second, Lindenwood had a chance to tie things up on another power play midway through the period but could not find the back of the net.
Madison Teague was called for a major roughing penalty and game misconduct at 12:07, matched by a two-minute roughing call on Michigan – Dearborn. That led to a 16-7 shot advantage for the Wolverines in the second.
Michigan – Dearborn added some insurance early in the third to take a 2-0 lead and that proved to be the final margin.
The Wolverines outshot the Lions 45-19 and Didocha stopped all but two of the 45 shots she faced in the defeat, which ended a three-game winning streak for Lindenwood.
The loss drops the Lions to 3-5 overall on the season. They will host Arizona State in a two-game series October 25-26, followed by a single contest with Miami University (Ohio) October 27. The Sun Devils have only played two games this year but won both by a margin of 14-4. The Red Hawks are 5-0-1 with a 29-7 scoring margin, so Lindenwood will be tested. The puck drops at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon and at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night against Arizona State. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon against Miami with all three games taking place at the Centene Community Ice Center.
