The women's ACHA division I ice hockey team fell in overtime to the Minot State Beavers Thursday afternoon by a score of 3-2 at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. With the loss, the Lions drop to 6-8-1 on the season.
Fierce offensive pressure by the Beavers in the first period led to several early scoring chances. The Beavers put fifteen pucks on net in the first period, but only one of these shots made it past Lions goaltender Evi Allerding. The Minot State goal was scored at 12:29 and made it 1-0 Beavers when the first period horn sounded.
As the second period got underway, Lindenwood regained their footing both on defensive and offensive sides of the puck. They matched the Beavers in shots on goal in the period with twelve, and were able to light the lamp twice thanks to Loki Antonio and Ardyn Hawryshko. At 3:22, Antonio scored her seventeenth goal of the season on an excellent play set up by Hawryshko and Madison Teague. With the score now tied 1-1, Hawryshko gave the Lions their first lead of the afternoon at 17:17 with her eleventh goal of the season. Antonio was credited with an assist on the Hawryshko goal. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Lions at the end of the second period.
The score remained 2-1 through a majority of the third period until Minot State tied the game at 17:41. Again, both teams matched each other in shots on goal with eleven in the period, but the late push by the Beavers was too much for the Lions to fend off and the game headed to overtime.
The Beavers ended the contest 4:36 into overtime as Minot State forward Journey Miller scored the game winning goal, just beating Lions net minder Evi Allerding.
Lindenwood will be back in action again on Friday as they take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies. Puckdrop is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. at Centene Community Ice Center.
