On Monday, the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) announced its weekly award winners and
Josh Newell of the Lindenwood baseball team was named Pitcher of the Week.
Newell toed the rubber on Sunday for the Lions and picked up a win over UT Martin. With the victory, the black and gold took the series from the Skyhawks on the road. The St. Charles, Mo. native tied a season high with seven innings pitched, allowing six hits, while striking out six. Those six strikeouts tied a season high.
This was his second outing of the season in which he allowed no runs, also doing so on March 3
rd against Omaha. He and
Aaron Jungers combined for Lindenwood's second shutout of the year. For Newell, it was his fifth victory of the season.
Newell and the rest of the Lions take on Eastern Illinois in the final series of the regular season. The squad currently sits one game out of a conference tournament spot. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
