Women's ACHA ice hockey began its season with a 4-0 shutout loss to Midland University Saturday afternoon in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action on the road at the Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Warriors jumped in front of the Lions with two even-strength goals in the opening period, the first at 3:57 and the second at 6:18. The score remained 2-0 in favor of Midland into the next frame.
Loki Antonio took a slashing penalty at the 2:07 mark and the Warriors capitalized with a power play goal just 13-seconds later to make it 3-0. Midland added another tally after a turnover by Lindenwood led to an unassisted effort at 4:54.
That was enough for Lions head coach
Andrew Miller to make a goalie change, pulling starter
Jordan Tung after she surrendered four goals on 23 shots over 24:54 of game-time.
Evi Allerding came on in relief and stopped all 21 shots she faced, but the Lindenwood offense was not able to mount any type of comeback resulting in the 4-0 Midland victory.
The Warriors outshot the Lions 44-14. Lindenwood went 0/2 on the power play while yielding one goal on three chances to Midland.
The Lions will attempt to earn a split in the series when they face the Warriors at noon on Sunday afternoon at the Sidner Ice Arena.
