Women's ACHA ice hockey scored its first two goals of the season and outshot Miami (Ohio) by 11 but still lost 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Lions had a chance to take an early lead after a Redhawks tripping penalty at the 9:39 mark but were unable to find the back of the net. Just under six minutes later, Miami split the pipes on an even strength effort at 15:21 to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Redhawks doubled that margin just 81-seconds into the second, but Lindenwood responded. After a Miami roughing penalty at 2:16,
Graece Fowler and
Katelynn Weeks went to work and set up Mackenzie Cameron just nine seconds into the power play and the Lions were on the board. Miami regained a two-goal advantage at 5:49 but Cameron struck again, this time with help from
Ava Bilton and
Devyn Doti on an even strength play at 6:08 and Lindenwood only trailed 3-2.
Just over six minutes later, the Redhawks scored to open up a two-goal margin for the third time in the game. Despite a massive effort on offense, the Lions were unable to mount a comeback. Miami added a fifth goal with 29-seconds remaining for the final 5-2 score.
Lindenwood outshot the Redhawks 16 to 12 in the first period, 17 to 13 in the second, and 14-11 in the third for an overall margin of 47 to 36 for the game.
Evi Allerding stopped 31 of the 36 shots she faced for the Lions while the Miami goaltender made 45 saves on 47 shots. Lindenwood scored once on three power play chances while holding the Redhawks scoreless on two man-advantage chances.
The Lions fall to 0-6 for the 2025-26 campaign. After a weekend off, they will return to the ice in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action for their first official road contest of the season October 10 against McKendree University. The opening faceoff is set for 11:59 p.m. Friday night at the Metro Rec-Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois.
