A third period goal from
Kennedy Frank proved to be the game winner in a 4-3 victory for women's ACHA hockey over Maryville Saturday night at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
The Lions held the Saints scoreless through the first period and initial moments of the second, but gave them plenty of chances on power plays, including what developed into a four-on-three opportunity with 17-seconds left in the opening frame. Maryville did ultimately hit the back of the net first on an even-strength chance at the 4:36 mark of the second, but Lindenwood answered just 26-seconds later when
Rylee Gee and Anaïs Fortier set up Frank for her first goal of the contest.
The Lions took a 2-1 lead when
Hallie Fisher scored on the power play with help from Frank and
Dakota McAlpine with 12:48 left in the period, but the Saints had their own man-advantage response just under a minute later to tie the game at two. As the flurry of offense continued, Lindenwood jumped in front again when
Risa Shatford sounded the horn at the 10:20 mark, assisted by Frank and
MacKenzie Drost.
The score remained 3-2 in favor of the Lions until Frank scored her second of the contest on a pass from Gee at the 11:47 mark of the third. Maryville scored with just over a minute on the clock, but any additional comeback was thwarted.
Frank led Lindenwood with four points on the night and
Emily McDonald stopped 20 of the 23 shots she faced to earn the win in goal as the Lions outshot the Saints 44 to 23.
With the victory, Lindenwood improved to 2-2-1 overall and to 1-1-1 in Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey action. Women's ACHA hockey gets a three-week break before a three-game stretch on neutral ice October 29-31.
