Despite putting 31 shots on goal, women's ACHA ice hockey went scoreless in a 3-0 loss to Miami (Ohio) Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Both teams traded blows in the first period with at least 10 shots each, but goaltending kept the puck out of the net. As time ticked away in the second, momentum slowly went the way of the Redhawks, resulting in a 1-0 lead for Miami in the final three minutes of the period. The Redhawks expanded their advantage at the 12:34 mark of the third and held off the Lions offense, forcing Head Coach
Andrew Miller to pull goaltender
Maia Busi in the final moments of regulation. Miami took advantage with an empty netter with 19.1 seconds remaining for the final margin.
The Redhawks outshot Lindenwood 34-31 and Busi stopped 31 of the 33 shots she faced in the losing effort.
With the loss, the Lions fell to 1-1-0 on the young season and settled for a series split with Miami.
After a weekend off, Lindenwood returns to the ice with a Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey series on the road against Liberty University October 2-3. The puck drops at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon and again at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Lahaya Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
