A
Loki Antonio hat trick combined with stellar goaltending from
Evi Allerding led women's ACHA ice hockey to a 5-1 victory over Arizona State Friday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Sun Devils outshot the Lions 14-7 in the opening period, but Lindenwood scored first when
Hilary Pearce and
Kailey Keller set up
MacKenzie Cameron for her first goal of the season at 4:19. ASU responded less than two minutes later on a breakaway unassisted effort, but that proved to be the only tally for the Sun Devils while the Lions posted four in a row.
Antonio netted the first of three at 10:26 of the second on a play set up by Sarah Nicholl and
Ardyn Hawryshko, then
Madison Teague sounded the horn at 15:40 with help from Paris Suzuki and
Katelynn Weeks and Lindenwood led 3-1 at the second intermission.
Antonio increased that advantage to 4-1 at the 8:22 mark of the third, assisted by Teague and Suzuki. The Sun Devils still had chances to get back in the game with two power plays, but the Lions successfully killed off both and Antonio finished her hat trick in between them off a feed from Teague at 14:12.
Arizona State outshot Lindenwood 43-30, but Allerding stopped 42 of the 43 pucks she faced to get a well-earned win. The Lions went scoreless on four power play chances, but the Sun Devils also failed to find the back of the net on their two man-advantage chances. Antonio's hat trick pushed her to 11 goals on the season and Teague earned her 11
th assist in the game.
With the win, Lindenwood improved to 4-5 overall. The Lions face ASU in the series finale on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., then take on Miami University (Ohio) on Sunday at 3 p.m. to wrap up a stretch of five non-conference games, with both remaining weekend contests taking place at Centene Community Ice Center.
