Lions Overpowered by Redhawks in Weekend Finale

The Lindenwood Lions women's ACHA Division I ice hockey team came up short in their weekend finale Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri, losing to the Miami (OH) Redhawks by a score of 4-2.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first period with shot totals equalling eleven to nine in favor of the Redhawks. A Miami tripping penalty sent Lindenwood to the power play where Hilary Pearce broke the deadlock with just fifteen seconds remaining in the period. Both Madison Teague and Loki Antonio continued their great play this weekend, picking up assists on Pearce's second goal of the season.

Scoring was equally hard to come by in the second period as both goaltenders continued to stand on their heads. A Madison Teague tripping penalty at 5:05 sent the Redhawks to the power play where they capitalized at 6:06. The Redhawks hounded the Lions with relentless pressure, but Lindenwood goaltender Jordan Tung stood tall. Tung faced eighteen shots in the period, letting in only the one Miami goal.

Lindenwood regained their footing in the third period, but a Graece Fowler hooking penalty gave Miami another man advantage. They scored at 4:02 with just five seconds remaining on the power play, taking a 2-1 lead, their first of the afternoon. However, Ardyn Hawryshko soon tied the game up again at 7:34 on a beautiful play set up by Loki Antonio and Devyn Doti. The goal scored by Hawryshko was her seventh of the season and third in the last two games. But unfortunately for the Lions, the Redhawks slipped one past the Lindenwood net minder at 17:45, a goal that ended up being the game winner. Miami added an empty netter at 19:12, making the score 4-2 when the final horn sounded.

The Lions went 2-1 on the weekend, and now hold a 5-6 record on the season. They are off to Minot, North Dakota to face the Minot State University Beavers on Friday, November 1. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
