Evi Allerding saved 48 of the 50 shots she faced, but women's ACHA ice hockey still fell short in a 2-1 loss to McKendree Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
In a game that featured all three goals by power play, it was the Bearcats that struck first, but not until 4:53 in the second. McKendree was called for interference two minutes later and the Lions capitalized.
Hilary Pearce and
Madison Teague set up
Ardyn Hawryshko at 7:53 to tie the contest 1-1.
McKendree had multiple chances to take the lead in the second and through the first half of the third as Lindenwood couldn't stay out of the penalty box, yielding four power plays to the Bearcats, but Allerding kept the puck out of the net. However, one more call for interference on the Lions at the 11-minute mark led to the game-winner for McKendree at 11:28.
The Bearcats outshot Lindenwood 50-18, including a 23-6 margin in the second period alone. With the loss, the Lions drop to 0-3 overall and in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) play. They will attempt a split in the series when they host McKendree Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. at the Centene Community Ice Center.
