Loki Antonio Scores Twice in 3-2 Loss to McKendree

Loki Antonio scored twice in a 3-2 loss to McKendree University in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The Lions had an early chance to take a lead when the Bearcats were called for hooking just 1:23 into the game, but the power play was killed off and the two teams played at even-strength for the next nine minutes until Lindenwood returned the favor, giving McKendree a man-advantage chance at 12:23. The Lions killed off that opportunity, but were not able to prevent a Bearcats goal at 16:38.

McKendree held a 1-0 lead through the rest of the first and into the second, but Lindenwood tied the contest at 7:59 when Antonio struck for her first goal of the game, assisted by Hilary Pearce and Ardyn Hawryshko. Three minutes later, the Lions were called for unsportsmanlike conduct and the Bearcats scored on the power play at the 12-minute mark to take a 2-1 advantage.

McKendree added to its lead early in the third with an even-strength goal, but the Bearcats were called for back-to-back roughing penalties within 48-seconds of each other, giving Lindenwood a five-on-three opportunity. It only took 21-seconds for the Lions to take advantage as Antonio netted her second on a play set up by Madison Teague and Hawryshko. That cut the deficit to 3-2, but that's as close as Lindenwood would get. McKendree ran out the clock for the series sweep.

The Bearcats outshot the Lions 47-24 and Evi Allerding stopped 44 of the 47 shots she faced in goal. Combined with her 48 saves the night before, Allerding made 92 saves in the two-game set. Lindenwood went 1/4 on the power play while yielding one goal on three man-advantage chances.

With the loss, the Lions are now 0-4 overall and in WMCH play. After a weekend off, Lindenwood hosts the University of Minnesota in the WMCH October 11-12. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. Friday night and at 8:40 p.m. Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center.
