It was another gritty defensive effort from the Lions, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Liberty offense as the Flames topped the women's ACHA ice hockey squad 7-0 in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action Saturday afternoon at the LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Unlike the opening game of the series, Liberty jumped on top early with two goals in the opening two minutes (00:41 and 1:41) of the first period. The Flames scored twice more at even strength at 7:39 and 11:23 and carried a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
Liberty scored once at the midway point of the second and then scored another two times in the first five minutes of the third for the final margin.
The Flames outshot the Lions 60 to 17 and
Evi Allerding stopped 53 of the 60 pucks she faced in the loss. Lindenwood dropped to 0-9 overall and to 0-6 in the WMCH. After an idle weekend, the Lions return to home ice for another WMCH contest against McKendree University October 30. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m. that Thursday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
