Women's ACHA ice hockey was upended by Miami (Ohio) University 3-1 Friday night at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio.
The Lions defended well through the first half of the game, but so did the Redhawks. The result was scoreless play through the first period and halfway into the second. Miami finally found a crack in the Lindenwood defense at the 12:03 mark and took a 1-0 lead. The Redhawks added to their advantage with 1:44 remaining in the period and then tacked on some insurance early in the third to make it 3-0.
The Lions kept pressing and outshot Miami in the third period.
Ardyn Hawryshko was the beneficiary of that offensive push as she sounded the horn for her 14
th goal of the season off a pass from
Hilary Pearce at 6:37. That put Lindenwood back within striking distance with plenty of time remaining in regulation, but the Redhawks refused to yield anything else.
Miami outshot the Lions overall 32-22 and
Evi Allerding stopped 29 of the 32 pucks she faced in goal.
With the loss, Lindenwood dropped to 10-12-2 overall. The Lions will seek a split in the two-game series with the Redhawks Saturday afternoon. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Goggin Ice Arena.
