Lions Blanked by Bearcats in Regular Season Finale

The Lindenwood women's ACHA division I ice hockey team wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday with a 9-0 loss to the McKendree Bearcats at the McKendree Rec-plex in Lebanon, Illinois.

McKendree jumped ahead 1-0 at the 1:44 mark and never looked back. McKendree added another goal at 3:43 and tallied their third score of the first period at 10:21. The Lions put four shots on goal in the first, but the Bearcats had 11 of their own and led 3-0 after period one.

The second period was very similar to that of the first period. The Bearcats put 10 shots on goal and three of those shots found the back of the net. The first McKendree goal was scored at 3:30, the second at 13:43, and the third 16 seconds later at 14:59. The Lions were once again on their heels and were only able to put four shots on goal in the second period. Lindenwood trailed McKendree 6-0 heading into the final period of play.

Both teams were on the defensive for the third period resulting in a combined eight shots on goal by both squads. For the third period in a row, the Bearcats hung three goals on the Lions. The first goal was scored at 2:10, the second at 6:02, and the third and final goal of the game at 18:05. The Bearcats held the Lions off the score sheet on Saturday as the score was 9-0 when the final horn sounded.

Lindenwood backup goaltender Alison Blaskovich made 17 of 26 saves and was handed the loss. The Lions were outshot 26-11on Saturday and the Lindenwood power play went 0/3. Saturday's defeat means the Lions will end the regular season record of 11-17-2 and 5-11-2 in conference play.

The Lions await their next opponent as their next game will be the Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) Conference Tournament. The tournament will be played at the Metro Rec-Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois and begins on Friday, February 21st.
